Decode any QR code without installing an app: point your camera, or drop in a screenshot someone sent you. We always show you the destination first — because scanning blind is how people get scammed.

Stay safe: always read a scanned link before opening it — genuine payment/menu codes should show a familiar domain, not a random short link.

How to use the QR Code Scanner

  1. 1

Camera or image — your choice

Live camera is fastest for posters, menus and payment stands. Upload works for codes inside WhatsApp screenshots and emails.

  2. 2

    Read before you open

The decoded link/text appears in full. Check the domain looks right before tapping Open.

  3. 3

Copy, open, or scan the next one

Results stack in a tidy session list with one-tap copy — handy for Wi-Fi passwords and long URLs.

Why use Tools Stars for this?

  • Works with laptop webcams and phone cameras — no separate app
  • Scans from image files and screenshots too
  • Safety-first: full link preview before opening (anti-phishing)
  • Session history with copy buttons; nothing stored after you leave
  • Decoding happens locally — what you scan is nobody else's business

Frequently asked questions

Is scanning random QR codes safe?

Scanning itself (reading the text) is safe; opening unknown links is the risk. That's why we display the full address first — banks and menus lead to recognizable domains, while scams hide behind odd short links.

Why won't my camera start?

The browser needs camera permission and an HTTPS page (this site is). Allow it in the address-bar prompt, and make sure no other app is using the camera. Image upload always works as backup.

Can it scan damaged or far-away codes?

Slightly damaged codes often still decode thanks to QR error correction. Get closer, fill the amber box, avoid reflections and keep steady for a second.

What kinds of QR content can it read?

Website links, Wi-Fi join codes (shown as text you can copy), plain text, phone numbers, crypto addresses — anything encoded into a standard QR.
